Bicycle activewear is not a uniform, a costume, or a fashion statement. It is a set of engineered garments designed to solve a narrow set of physical problems that occur when a human body spends hours in a bent-forward position on a saddle, generating heat and producing sweat, while moving through air that may be cold, wet, windy, or hot. The core problems are these: moisture management, thermal regulation, friction reduction, and aerodynamics. Every serious design decision in a jersey, bib short, jacket, or base layer traces back to one of these four obligations.

Failure to address these problems has real, measurable outcomes. When a cotton t-shirt is worn under a club jacket on a cold day, the fabric absorbs sweat from the torso. That trapped moisture accelerates evaporative cooling, and the rider's core temperature drops. This is not an abstract comfort issue; it is a pathway to reduced muscle function and, in moderate weather, genuine hypothermia. On a hot day, a non-breathable jacket causes heat to build against the skin, forcing the body to produce more sweat to cool itself, which in turn leads to excessive dehydration and a measurable decrease in power output.
