What a Rod Bag or Case Actually Does

A fishing rod bag or case is a protective enclosure designed to shield a rod, or a set of rods, from the specific hazards of transport and storage. That sounds simple, but the category covers a wide range of products doing very different jobs. The thin nylon sleeve you use to keep a two-piece fly rod from tangling in the back of a car is not performing the same function as a rigid, crush-resistant travel case for a $900 saltwater spinning rod.
