That description is technically accurate, but it undersells the engineering and the practical variance that exists across the category. In a professional setting, a sugar dispenser is a metering device, a hygiene boundary, and a workflow component. It is not a bowl with a lid. The difference between a dispenser that performs well and one that performs poorly is measurable in waste, in cleaning time, and in the consistency of the product you serve.

To understand what a sugar dispenser actually does, you need to think about the material it handles.
