What a Tablet Battery Actually Is
When you open a tablet to replace a worn-out battery, you aren't just swapping out an energy cell. You are removing a complete subsystem: one or more lithium-ion pouch cells, a protection circuit board, a thermistor, a flex cable, and in many cases a firmware interface that your tablet's operating system reads to calculate remaining run time. Your tablet's battery is not a generic part. It is a set of engineering decisions that were made at the factory, measured against a specific power management IC, and programmed with a charge profile. If you replace it with a random cell that fits in the cavity, you might get lucky, but you are just as likely to end up with a tablet that shuts down at 60%, refuses to charge to full, or overheats during video calls.
To work with these batteries, you need to understand the three layers that make them function. The first is the electrochemical layer: ion movement between cathode and anode. The second is the electrical layer: how the cell is wired to the tablet's power conversion circuitry, including the Sense pin and thermistor connections. The third is the digital layer: how the battery's fuel gauge chip or the tablet's charge controller estimates state-of-charge. Most repairs fail not because the replacement cell is defective, but because one of these three layers is misaligned.
