Headrest hangers and hooks serve one function: to hold items off the floor of a vehicle, within reach of the driver or rear-seat passengers. The design problem is that they attach to a structure that is simultaneously a safety device, an ergonomic feature, and an interior trim piece. A headrest is not a permanent steel beam. It is a padded, adjustable component mounted on metal posts that penetrate the seat back. The hanger must grip those posts firmly enough to stay in place under load and vibration, yet must not damage the posts, interfere with the headrest's adjustability, or pose a hazard in a collision.

Most products in this category are deceptively simple. A typical hanger is a piece of formed steel or molded polymer with a hook shape at one end and any of several attachment mechanisms at the other. The hook extends outward from the back or side of the front seat, providing a place to hang a jacket, a bag, or a child's tablet.
