Chapter 1: Why Most Approaches Fail — and What Actually Works
You have probably made a list of all the reasons your renovation is going wrong. The contractor is a snake. The timeline was a fantasy. You had no idea tile was that expensive. The internet lied to you about what a "weekend project" really takes. You think the problem is the people, the money, or the sheer unpredictability of construction. You are wrong. All of those are just symptoms. The actual disease is that you are using the wrong operating system.
Think about how you approached the start of your project. Did you spend hours on Pinterest and Instagram, building a board full of beautiful, magazine-quality images? Did you make a moodboard? Did you walk through a showroom and fall in love with a particular style of cabinetry or a specific type of marble? Did you request five different quotes from general contractors, hoping the lowest number was the lucky one? Then, when all of that was done, did you tear out a wall or pick a paint color and just start, hoping for the best?
