The New Graduate's Financial Blueprint

A step-by-step system to automate your finances, eliminate debt, and build wealth in your first decade after graduation

by Alumigogo Books

Chapter 1: Why Most Approaches Fail — and What Actually Works

You did everything right. You went to class, you did the extracurriculars, you wrote the cover letters, and you landed the job. Now someone - your parents, your bank, a finance podcast your friend keeps sending you - is telling you that you need to start investing early, that compound interest is the most powerful force in the universe, and that if you just cut out your daily latte, you will retire as a millionaire.

So you try. You download a budgeting app, maybe two. You sign up for an investing app because it has a slick interface and a mascot that looks like it shops at the same store as your favorite sneakers. You promise yourself you will track every expense, and for two weeks, you do. Then you have a birthday. Then your friend's wedding. Then it is flu season and you buy a lot of soup. And suddenly your budget is fiction, the investing app has a tidy little sum in it that you definitely have not touched in six months, and you feel vaguely like a failure for not being the disciplined person the internet told you to be.

Here is the real problem: the advice was not wrong. You are not undisciplined. The system you were given was built on a false premise, and that premise is that your financial success depends on your daily willpower.
