Chapter 1: First Day

Welcome. You're here because you've been wondering about singing, and today is the day you actually try it. Not thinking about it, not watching another YouTube video of someone else doing it — you, making sounds out loud, in a room, on purpose.

First, an honest reassurance about what this day is. You are not going to sound good today. That's not the goal. The goal for this first 25-minute session is simpler: you're going to find out where your voice starts, what it feels like to use it deliberately, and you're going to record yourself doing something without immediately deleting it in shame. Those are the three real wins. If you get through all three of those, day one was a success, no matter how foolish you felt doing it.

Let's talk about physical setup before you make a single sound. You need a comfortable chair without armrests, or you can stand. If you sit, sit at the edge of the chair, feet flat on the floor, spine long but not military-stiff. Think of a string pulling up gently from the top of your head through the ceiling — that's the posture. Now, do a small experiment: shrug your shoulders all the way up to your ears, hold for three seconds, and exhale as you drop all that tension away.
