About this book

Capacitors are everywhere: in power supplies, motor starters, RF filters, energy storage systems, and countless industrial devices. Yet choosing, installing, and maintaining them correctly requires knowledge that's scattered across manufacturer datasheets, obsolete textbooks, and hard-won field experience.

The Complete Handbook of Capacitors is a working reference for professionals, technicians, and serious hobbyists who need to understand capacitor behavior, select the right component for their application, avoid costly failures, and make business decisions around capacitor supply and service. You'll learn what capacitors actually do in a circuit, how to read specifications that matter, which types suit which applications, how to diagnose and prevent common failure modes, and what opportunities exist for reselling, servicing, or consulting in this space.

Based on field experience, manufacturer specifications, and engineering first principles—not marketing promises or oversimplification—this handbook cuts through the noise to give you the knowledge to make confident, cost-effective decisions every time.

★★★★★

I've been working with electronics for years and this chapter alone answered questions I've had for a long time. The explanation of why capacitors actually matter in real circuits—with the power supply example and motor startup scenario—makes sense in a way that generic 'charges and discharges' definitions never did. That said, I wish Chapter 1 had included a bit more on how to interpret voltage derating curves; I get that it's coming later, but it would have solidified my understanding even more at the start.
