About this book

The Complete Handbook of Electrician Fish Tape is the essential reference for anyone who pulls wire for a living or a serious project. This is not a sales brochure; it's a practical guide that dissects what fish tape actually is, how it works in different scenarios, and why the nuances of material, diameter, and design matter so much on the job.

Inside, you'll find a clear breakdown of the different types and specifications, details on what to look for when evaluating a tool, and a systematic approach to choosing the right tape for your specific situation, from empty conduits to long, complex pulls with multiple bends. The book goes beyond basic operation, offering detailed instructions on correct usage, proper setup, and proactive maintenance to prevent frustrating failures like twisting and breaking.

It also covers the business side of thingsβ€”from understanding the market and key suppliers to exploring opportunities in reselling, servicing, and private labeling. Finally, the handbook looks forward to emerging trends in materials and technology and provides a curated guide to the standards and expert resources every serious professional should know. Whether you're a veteran electrician, a business owner, or a dedicated hobbyist, this handbook delivers the concrete, usable knowledge you need to work faster, safer, and more profitably.

It's a solid reference, and I can tell the author knows the trade. I appreciated the chapter on maintenance, which is often ignored. My main reservation is that it feels a bit too basic if you've been pulling wire for over a decade. I was hoping for more advanced troubleshooting on the newest carbon fiber tapes, but it's a fine book to hand to a new apprentice.

This is the book I wish I had when I started my low-voltage business. The chapter on choosing the right one was worth the price alone, but the business opportunities section got me thinking about my service model. I docked a star because a few of the photos in my kindle edition looked a little grainy, but the text is dense with practical info and I've already referenced it twice on a job.

I bought this alongside a new 3/16 inch steel tape, and it's a great primer. I wouldn't call myself a full pro, but I do a lot of big renovations, and the chapter on wall fishing saved me a ton of time. I especially liked the clear breakdown of the different materials and why you'd pick one over the other. It's not a riveting read, but it's a damn good reference.
