About this book

Whether you are fitting a 20-foot commercial flagpole, installing a windsock at a rural airstrip, or simply upgrading a residential bracket, the difference between a setup that lasts five years and one that fails in five months is almost always in the accessories. This handbook moves beyond the fabric panel to cover the entire system: halyards, snaps, swivels, cleats, poles, brackets, ground sleeves, lighting, and more. It explains what each part is made of, why it matters, and how to calculate the specifications you need for your specific conditions.

This book is not a catalog and it is not marketing. It is a reference manual written for people who make decisions for a living. It covers marine-grade vs. commercial-grade materials, proper installation on wood, masonry, and concrete, routine seasonal maintenance, and a full troubleshooting section. The final chapters address business opportunities, emerging trends like solar lighting and IoT wind sensors, and a glossary for quick reference.

Backed by practical examples and clear tables, The Complete Handbook of Flag & Windsock Accessories is the reference you will keep in the truck, the shed, or the office, and consult on every job.

I bought this looking for a solid reference, and it is a solid reference. The chapter on choosing the right accessories will save you from the trial-and-error approach most of us use. I deducted a star because the troubleshooting section could have gone deeper on the electronics end of things, and some of the material grade comparisons feel a bit surface-level for a book that claims to be for professionals. It's still worth a spot on the shelf next to the other manuals.

It's fine. I've been installing flagpoles for 15 years, so a lot of this was familiar territory. I picked it up hoping for something new in the trends and business chapter, and while that chapter had a couple of good ideas about the service side, I was a little disappointed it wasn't longer. The chapters on installation and maintenance are a good refresher and I'll probably have my new guy read them. Not a bad book, just not exactly what I was hoping for.
