About this book

You grip the club roughly 50 times per round, and each grip transmits force from your hands to the shaft. The glove is the only piece of equipment between your skin and that transmission. Yet most golfers select their glove by feel and brand loyalty, ignoring the specific materials, tannage, and retention system that determine how the glove performs in the rain, through 100 practice swings, or during the third hour of a round.

This handbook treats the golf glove like the precision consumable it is. It explains the differences between cabretta and synthetic leathers, how moisture and temperature affect grip, and why a glove that fits perfectly in the store might stretch or shrink after a dozen rounds. It provides structured selection frameworks for different player types, step-by-step break-in procedures, and a troubleshooting guide for common problems like blisters, premature wear, and seam failure.

Beyond the individual player, this book addresses the commercial side: how glove manufacturers are structured, what margins look like at retail, and how you can enter the market through reselling, private-labeling, or offering a glove care service. It closes with an honest look at trends, including sustainability pressures and smart materials, and a glossary that ensures you can hold your own in any pro shop conversation.

I work in a pro shop and ordered this based on the premise that it would be more technical than the usual fluff. It is more technical, I'll give it that. The chapters on materials and the 3-roll palm vs. normal palm discussion were genuinely useful, and I've already changed how I store our inventory. But I had some issues with the business chapter - the margin examples felt generic, and the troubleshooting section for seam tearing didn't cover the specific failure I see on our discounted gloves. It's still the best reference I've found, but I was hoping for more depth in the commercial sections.
