About this book

Musical instrument amplifier covers and cases are a deceptively simple category. A wrong-size cover can be useless, a poorly constructed case can damage the amp it was meant to protect, and a cheap 'flight case' can fall apart on the first tour. This handbook removes the guesswork. You'll learn the actual differences between vinyl, Cordura, ballistic nylon, ABS, plywood, and aluminum; what to measure and why; and how to match a product to the realities of a van, a trailer, a warehouse, or a studio corner.

The book walks through nine practical chapters: from understanding the category and its key specifications, to choosing the right product, installing and using it correctly, maintaining and repairing it, and even building a business around it. It includes realistic examples—sizing a cover for a 2x12 combo, repairing a torn handle on a road case, deciding between a soft bag and a hardshell case for local gigs—and concludes with a glossary of terms and a detailed FAQ section.

Written for professionals, rental houses, repair technicians, and serious hobbyists, this is a practical reference, not a marketing brochure. It tells you what works, what doesn't, and how to know the difference before you spend your money.

I've been loading my own gear for years and this is the first book that actually treats amp covers like an engineering problem instead of a fashion accessory. The chapter on sizing is worth the price alone—I realized I'd been buying covers that were way too big, which is almost as bad as not having one. Only reservation is I wish it had a few more photos of the different case corners and latches; the descriptions are good but some visual reference would help.
