About this book
Pet steps and ramps are simple in concept but complex in application. They must accommodate a wide range of animal weights, gaits, and mobility limitations, while also fitting into human living spaces. This handbook cuts through the marketing noise to deliver a complete, practical reference: how to evaluate a product's structural integrity, which surface materials actually prevent slips, and how load ratings translate to real-world safety.
Written for professionals and serious enthusiasts, the book's nine chapters cover the full lifecycle of the product: from understanding the biomechanics of why access aids matter, to selecting the right configuration for a specific animal and environment, to correct installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. It also addresses the commercial side, offering a clear-eyed look at the market, key manufacturers, and viable business models including private labeling, rental services, and consultation.
Whether you are a vet recommending a solution for a hip dysplasia patient, a facility manager retrofitting a kennel, or an entrepreneur planning a product line, this handbook provides the concrete knowledge you need.

★★★★★Decent reference material, and I got some useful data out of the chapter on material specs. The glossary is solid, and the breakdown of load-testing procedures was more detailed than I've seen anywhere else. My main gripe is that the brand profiles in Chapter 6 felt a little too cautious; I was hoping for some bolder recommendations about which manufacturers are actually pulling ahead. Also, a few of the installation diagrams are impossible to see on a Kindle, which is a bit of a pain. It's a good book to have on the shelf, but I'm not sure it's the last word I expected it to be.
