Not every serious hobbyist has the big stationary equipment. The 4 stars is a statement about the writing; it is dense and dry. If you want an exciting read, buy a novel. If you want the technical reason why a 5/8-inch core is better for an interior wall, this book delivers it.

I picked this up expecting more of a visual guide to different looks, but it is what it claims to be: a technical handbook. The detail on fastener spacing and priming is extremely useful, and I have referenced it more than a few times. I am taking one star off because it does not have enough photographs or diagrams of the actual finished looks. It is a text-heavy book. But if you are seriously installing, this information is critical.

The premise promises a complete reference, and it feels more focused on finish and interior applications.
